Sweet Tooth in latest issue of VAMPD

Concept: I am a member of Model Mayhem and have seen countless beauty images that coat the lips with sprinkles and other sweet treats. Since this theme has been done so many times, I wanted to take a fresh approach and try something unique. I teamed up with Stefanie Cuesta for hair and Anthony Nguyen for makeup and we discussed our ideas and decided to each make a few items and see what worked best the day of the shoot.

Cut to... Jordan at Forever 21 filling up her basket with loads of jewelry that was soon to be covered in candy. This was a learning experience for me regarding the shape of candy and how it will hold glue. Let's just say skittles don't work well because they do not have a flat surface that will stick.

Once I had my jewelry, I went to the hardware store and asked the guy at the counter where the primer was. He looked at me confused and said, "You have to be 18 to buy spray paint." I laughed and said I am over 18. No I am not telling you my age, you know is not polite to ask for a woman's age. Needless to say, that made my day. I forgot what 18 feels like.

I then proceeded to the grocery store and bought any candy that came in tropical colors and looked like it would photograph well. Later I found myself covered in glue and various dyes from the candy that came off in my hand... and sprinkles littered the floor. But it was well worth it when my NERDS ring and MENTOS bracelet came to life!

Image: I wanted the images to really pop so I bought some background papers in fun colors. I will probably never use the light green again, but hey, life is about experimenting. To emphasize the color pop, I used a ring flash. I LOVE the ring flash, but it has it's place.

Design: VAMPD contacted me to see if I had any images that would work for their latest SKIN & SASS issue so I sent over a few stories and they liked the SWEET TOOTH series and paired a couple of their images with their "Dessert places in LA." The fabulous designers at VAMPD laid out the images. Click here to view the rest of the SWEET TOOTH series.

Lloyd Klein Retrospective Book

Here are some behind the scenes shots from my Lloyd Klein shoot last week. We had a great time and I hope to be selected as one of the 50 photographers for Lloyd Klein's retrospective book!
